Liceul Tehnologic ,,Grigore C. Moisil" Buzau

The Technological High school ”Grigore C. Moisil” is situated in Buzau – a town at about 100 km away from Bucharest.
It was founded in 1974 under the name Electrotechnical High school and it is a secondary education establishment, which has as main objectives initial vocational training and education for teenagers between 15 and 19 years old.
The students (almost 610 attending day and evening classes) are prepared by 50 teachers in the  electrical, electronic, media production and mechanical (AutoCAD design) domains - new qualifications according to the requests of the local and European labour market.
The 65% from our students come from families with little financial possibilities, 55% are daily commuters (their houses are 30-40 km away from school), 10% have learning difficulties and 1% present the risk of abandoning school.
Because the governmental funds received for every students represent just a small amount of money, because the laboratory work and the practical stages cannot be done with small groups of students but with the whole class, this meaning 25-30 students and because the school’s material base is poor, the vocational and technical education in Romania is not attractive and that is why the students are not interested and motivated and there appears the absenteeism.
That is why we struggle to find new ways to bring them to school and make the school look attractive. We do this by proposing all kinds of extracurricular activities and educational projects from different fields, like artistic and cultural activities and contests, health education projects, ecology, volunteering, and so on. This is our way to make the students understand how important the school is for them and to make them see beyond the difficulties they encounter.
